What is solar power?

Solar Power is a renewable source of electricity and heat that is derived from the sun. The sun emits energy in the form of solar radiation and technology like solar cells (Also called photovoltaic or PV cells) convert the sun’s light into usable energy.

Solar cells are made of semiconductor materials similar to those found on computer chips. When sunlight hits the cells, it knocks electrons loose from their atoms. As the electrons flow through the cell, they generate electricity. Solar energy is an inexhaustible virtually pollution-free fuel source.

Work?

Photovoltaic (PV) or solar cells convert sunlight into electricity. When sunlight hits the semiconductor material of a solar cell, it releases electrons that generate electric current. A solar panel is a frame with multiple connected solar cells. The more solar panels are connected together, the more electricity is produced.

Solar panels produce direct current (DC), not alternating current (AC) electricity. We connect the solar panels to an inverter, which changes the current from DC to AC electricity. The AC electricity runs through the electrical panel and is distributed throughout your home.

Excess solar energy is stored in batteries or pushed onto the grid.

This clean electricity from the sun can replace power from the national grid or a generator and eliminates all the harm of power from fossil fuels.
